Client-side project management for industrial demolition and decommissioning

Client-Side Project Management

Client-Side Project Management

Professional Projects Group provides client-side project management for demolition, decommissioning and industrial asset transition projects across Australia — independent oversight, contractor management and commercial control on behalf of the asset owner.

What we do

Independent project management for complex industrial projects.

Client-side project management means working for the asset owner — not for the contractor, the designer or the delivery organisation. Our role is to maintain the owner's interests through delivery: managing contractors, controlling scope and cost, managing risk and ensuring the project reaches its defined end state.

Professional Projects Group provides client-side project management for demolition, decommissioning, remediation and asset transition projects. We have experience managing complex industrial projects across refineries, chemical plants, manufacturing facilities, defence assets and major infrastructure in Australia and the UK.

What client-side project management covers.

01

Contractor Management

Managing demolition, decommissioning and remediation contractors — progress oversight, performance management, interface coordination and issue resolution.

02

Commercial Management

Contract administration, change control, variation assessment, progress payment review and final account management — protecting the owner's commercial position.

03

Programme Management

Programme monitoring, critical path management, delay analysis and recovery planning — maintaining programme control through delivery.

04

Risk Management

Active risk management through delivery — monitoring emerging risks, assessing impacts, implementing mitigations and maintaining the risk register.

05

Regular progress reporting, cost reporting, risk reporting and governance documentation — keeping the owner informed and supporting project decisions.

06

Close-Out Management

Managing the close-out process — waste documentation, environmental validation, regulatory compliance, contract close-out and handover documentation.

Why client-side

The value of client-side project management.

On complex industrial projects, the asset owner's interests are not automatically protected by the contractor's project management. Contractors manage their own cost, programme and risk — not the owner's. Client-side project management provides the owner with independent oversight of the contractor's performance and the project's commercial position.

Client-side project management is particularly valuable on projects with significant environmental liability, complex regulatory obligations, live operational interfaces or high-consequence safety risks. These are the conditions where independent oversight has the greatest impact on the project outcome.

Professional Projects Group has no delivery arm and no preferred contractors. Our client-side project management is shaped entirely by the owner's outcome — not by a desire to protect a delivery relationship or manage a contractor's commercial position.

Common questions

Client-side project management questions.

What is client-side project management?

Client-side project management means managing a project on behalf of the asset owner — overseeing contractors, controlling scope and cost, managing risk and ensuring the project reaches its defined end state. It is distinct from contractor project management, which manages the contractor's own delivery obligations.

When do I need client-side project management?

Client-side project management is most valuable on complex projects where the owner does not have the internal resources or specialist expertise to manage the contractor directly. It is particularly important on projects with significant environmental liability, complex regulatory obligations, live operational interfaces or high-consequence safety risks.

What is the difference between client-side and contractor project management?

Contractor project management manages the contractor's delivery obligations — their cost, programme and risk. Client-side project management manages the owner's interests — ensuring the contractor delivers what was contracted, at the agreed cost and programme, to the required standard. The two roles have different objectives and different accountabilities.

Do you provide project management for the full project lifecycle?

Yes. Professional Projects Group can provide client-side project management from the front-end planning stage through procurement, delivery and close-out. We can also be engaged for specific phases — for example, delivery oversight only, or close-out management only.
